central electronic complex

Abbreviated as CEC, most non-technical people (and many technical people as well) would simply refer to the central electronic complex as a big business computer. More precisely, it is all of the hardware that makes up the guts of a mainframe or midrange (but not desktop) computer, including the central processing unit (CPU), I/O and other data channels, internal memory, controllers, power supplies and, in some cases, also disk storage units.
